Newtons blob

I was searching E bay for some interesting items when I cam across this Newtons rings apparatus from Philip Harris. It's exactly the same as the one that we had when I was at school, coming over all nostalgic I... more»

Monthly Feature
It's always worth having a look at the "new sims" on the Phet site. They have been busy producing some for Chemistry and Biology but also a couple of new one for physics. With so many good applets and animations around it's worth making yourself a page of links. I started one some years ago and it's now part of this site. I have organised the links in under IB syllabus headings, here is the page for the core.
I find it so difficult to remember what the link is from the URL so have included a thumbnail screenshot to help. If I were making this page today I'd embed the links from Phet instead.
States of Matter
This one shows the way the molecules behave as heat is added. What I'd like it to show is that the temperature doesn't change as the material changes state. This doesn't seem to be the case though.
Resonance
In this one you can set the properties of the springs to get resonance. I think I'd need to play with this one a bit before using it in front of the class as it seems a bit fiddly.
