Jelena is a biology teacher that's why she's pointing at the plant and the reason why she is smiling so broadly is that she has just proved to me that plants can sing. Yeah, I know they can, Robert Plant.
To say this particular plant is singing is maybe a bit of an exaggeration. What is actually going on is there are two wires attached to two different leaves with crocodile clips. The wires are connected to a mysterious black box which is in turn connected to speakers. If you touch the plant either by stroking or punching ( I tried) you get some strange "music" emanating from under the table. It would appear that what is going on is that small changes in potential are being amplified by the mysterious box fairly randomly converted into sound of varying frequency. The strange thing is however that the plant doesn't always feel like singing. would expect that no matter where you put the electrodes on the plant you'd get some sort of sound. It seems particularly vulnerable when first plugged in. Maybe when first bitten by the croc clips large pds are produced that the mysterious box blocks. This might also be why it doesn't respond to human hands. I wanted to see if it responded to dead plants but Jelena wouldn't let me.
